Design and Technology / History

As part of their History project, the children in Primary 5 looked at "The Shaduf" - A device used by the Ancient Egyptians for lifting water out of the River Nile up the fields above. Using everyday materials, the children set about making their ownv working shaduf with the following specifications:

* It had to lift water from the sink up to the bench
* It had to be free-standing
* It had to be no taller than 30cm

The children really enjoyed this task and made some very interesting designs, some of which are pictured below.
